2017 Leadership Seminar

Grounded & Growing, June 2-4, 2017

St. Methodios Retreat Center, Contoocook, NH

The 2017 Leadership Seminar will empower ambassadors to become grounded in their current leadership skills and understand aspects of their identity through exploring Individual Leadership, while also growing new leadership skills to enable ambassadors to flourish in their schools, communities, and leadership positions through effective Group Leadership. Ambassadors will also examine the root causes of a variety of issues facing their schools and communities, and create a plan to address said issues during the Leadership for Society portion of the program. Most importantly, ambassadors will plant the seeds - quite literally - for positive social change during our Leadership in Action service project at the NH Food Bank Production Garden. Throughout the weekend, ambassadors will grow to be leaders with a strong sense of self and purpose while being grounded in a commitment to social action.

My favorite thing about seminar weekend is how much confidence it has given me. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I am excited to return to my school and share my new perspective with others.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the leadership seminar is based on HOBY's vision to

motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our society. HOBY believes students represent the future leaders of the world.

By developing and understanding effective and compassionate leadership, we hope ambassadors will be able to realize their leadership potential, and take action in their homes, schools, and communities.

The HOBY program is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives:

  1. Personal Leadership

  2. Group Leadership

  3. Societal Leadership

We have an action packed weekend featuring a number of engaging, thought provoking, and fun activities and speakers, including:

  • 4 Hours of Service at the NH Food Bank Production Garden

  • Leadership and Team Building Activities

  • "Grounded in Leadership" Panel, including the Marketing Director of CocaCola of Northern New England

  • Alumni Presentations, including MIss New Hampshire's Caroline Carter
