ABOUT HOBY

Founded in 1958, Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.

For over five decades, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) has inspired young people to make a difference and become catalysts for positive change in their home, school, workplace, and community. As America’s foremost youth leadership organization, HOBY has a long and impressive history of successfully motivating youth and volunteers to outstanding leadership.

Since 1981, HOBY New Hampshire has been serving youth across the state of New Hampshire through our annual leadership seminar, Community Leadership Workshops, alumni programs, and encouraging students to participate in a number of HOBY International programs.

PROGRAMS

HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. In New Hampshire, HOBY programs provide   unique leadership training, service learning and motivation building experiences to 90 high school sophomores attending over 65 high schools across the state.

VOLUNTEERS

HOBY provides individuals with opportunities to make a significant impact on the lives of youth through volunteering. Over 4,000 committed volunteers plan and execute HOBY programs nationally each year. New Hampshire offers a variety of long term and episodic opportunities ranging from corporate board governance to event volunteers.

ALUMNI

Today, over 450,000 proud alumni make HOBY stronger than ever. HOBY New Hampshire alumni are leaders in their schools and communities, making a difference for others through service and ethical leadership. Our Alumni Board offers a wide variety of activities to keep individuals  engaged long after their program ends.

GIVE

HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. In New Hampshire, HOBY programs provide unique leadership training, service learning and motivation building experiences to 90 high school sophomores attending over 65 high schools across the state.

 

HOBY New Hampshire is made possible because of the generous contributions of many local organizations, businesses, and individuals. Many individuals also support our programs through volunteering their time and energy.

VOLUNTEER

Each year, HOBY New Hampshire programs provide unique leadership training, service learning and motivation building experiences to 100 high school sophomores attending over 65 high schools across the state.

 

All HOBY New Hampshire programs are operated by dedicated volunteers in a variety of both long-term and short-term volunteer positions.

Volunteer Roles

Corporate Board

The HOBY New Hampshire Corporate Board is comprised of  representatives of various businesses, cooperating organizations and HOBY NH program planning volunteers. The Board ensures the quality and quantity of programming by providing oversight to all activities conducted in New Hampshire under the HOBY name.

Program Planning

All HOBY New Hampshire programs, including the annual Sophomore Leadership Seminar, Community Leadership Workshops, and Alumni Activities, are planned by volunteers in a variety of leaderships roles with varying time commitments and levels of responsibilities. Most typically involve a year-long commitment.

Episodic Volunteers

​​Perhaps our most important volunteers are those who hold episodic volunteer roles. These individuals volunteer their time for a specific time frame during one of our programs in a variety of roles including group facilitators, execution of tasks, and during service projects.

Volunteerism is the heart and soul of our organization. We appreciate the myriad contributions of our volunteers, and recognize the power of "thank you" and of giving back. We seek to promote and encourage service among our stakeholders. We recognize and value the positive accomplishments that volunteers can achieve by working together. We believe that volunteers are positively impacted by our programs as much as the youth and communities we serve.
